The short version: your Bluesky archive is read inside your own browser. It is never uploaded to us, never stored by us, and never seen by us. We could not hand it over to anyone if we wanted to, because we do not have it.
Your archive
When you drop in a .car file, it is read by code running in your browser tab. No part of it is transmitted anywhere.
When you type a handle instead, your browser contacts three public services directly: Bluesky's public API to turn the handle into an identifier, the PLC directory to find which server hosts the account, and that server to download the repository. Those requests come from your device, not from our servers, and are subject to the privacy policies of those services.
When you download your media, each file is fetched by your browser from the server that hosts your account, and packed into a zip on your device.
What we store
- Nothing about your archive. No posts, no media, no handles, no identifiers.
- If you buy a licence, our payment provider (Polar) holds your email and payment record. We can see that a purchase happened; we never see card details.
- A licence key you enter is kept in your browser's local storage so you do not have to paste it every visit. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Analytics and cookies
No advertising trackers, no third-party analytics scripts, no cookie banner, because there is nothing to consent to. If we ever add privacy-preserving traffic counting, it will be stated here first and it will not involve cookies or personal data.
Licence checks
Validating a licence key sends the key itself to our server, which forwards it to Polar to confirm it is active. The key is not linked to your archive, because we do not have your archive.
Your rights
If you are in the EU or UK, you have rights of access, correction and erasure over personal data. Since the only personal data connected to you is a purchase record, requests are simple: email hello@blueskycarconverter.com and we will act on it. You can also ask Polar directly.
Children
This service is not directed at children under 13, and we knowingly collect nothing from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will not be applied retroactively to data we never had.
